The lever that reaches into the main wheel of the escapement, to set it one klick backwards by moving down at the arrow (sorry) At the arrow there is a small metal part that pushes the main wheel down and leaves the wheel alone on its way back upwards

It looked like something was broken here, the cause of the problem seemed found But is was not, as comparison to an equivalent part in a Sterling Continental revealed a similar weary edge.

the metal was hammered flat a little bit to make it protrude just a few 10th of a mm. After that it reaches right behind a tooth of the escapement gearwheel, instead of against it. This solved the problem. The unsatisfactory aspect being that the root cause of the problem stayed unclear. This machine is beautiful but crammed full of parts, you can not see what is happening around the escapement

Comparison to the pawl of a Sterling Continental (below) shows that there is no fracture, but a difference in shape and lenght of the pawl end. It also shows that the pivot-bolt is the other way around in the Sterling.
