Tower: Typewriter Serial Number Age List

Also known as • Sears • Tower (Consul) • Tower (R.C. Allen)

Serial Number Table Last Edited: 03/22/13 03:14
NOTE: dates shown are JAN 1 unless noted, so the serial number shown is the *first* serial number produced the given year. Exceptions are serial numbers preceded by "up to"(where you can assume that the numbers reported in that subsection are DECEMBER 31, END OF YEAR NUMBERS) or rows where a month is given in the month column. If the serial number is shown as a range (xxxx-xxxx) it indicates that we know the entire range of serial numbers for the given year.

Tower (Sears Brand) Typewriters appear to have been marketed between about 1950 into the 1970's Reseach using old Sears Wish Book catalogs suggests that early 1950's Towers were rebranded Underwoods and Olivetti Lettera 22's. If your machine looks like a 1950's Underwood or a Lettera 22, try comparing your serial number against those lists. Around 1956 onward, Sears started re-branding Smith-Coronas, but we're not sure if the serial numbers are concurrent. You might try there anyway. In Canada, Sears-Simpsons re-branded Patrias and Consuls as Towers around 1957. We're not sure if the Patrias were Swiss-made or Spanish-made, so try your luck at either.
