Serial Number Table Last Edited: 08/28/16 06:45
NOTE: dates shown are JAN 1 unless noted, so the serial number shown is the *first* serial number produced the given year. Exceptions are serial numbers preceded by "up to"(where you can assume that the numbers reported in that subsection are DECEMBER 31, END OF YEAR NUMBERS) or rows where a month is given in the month column. If the serial number is shown as a range (xxxx-xxxx) it indicates that we know the entire range of serial numbers for the given year.

Invented by Theodore W. Searing in 1890, this machine is known by
collectors as the "Searing Pearl" to distinguish it from the earlier 1887
another "Sjoberg" Pearl
built by Garvin Machine Co. in New York in 1891, and an alleged variant of the
also named "Pearl".
Manufactured by Pearl Typewriter Company of New York, NY, USA.

The "Searing" Pearl has a large circular index printed on a
celluloid disk with the patent date "May 12, 1891".
There are at least 2 variations, one with an unpainted metal frame base that extends past the carriage ends, and another with a painted, shorter metal base with pinstriping.
Characters are printed around two-thirds of the index wheel, and a pointer is used to select and print any one of 48 characters. Platen length: 8.75".
