Hard to find fault in this truly handsome machine. Designed by Alexander "Xanti" Schawinsky, the Olivetti 42 reflects the Basel-born artist's German "Bauhaus School" modernist aesthetic- practicaI functionality that is spare, geometric, yet elegant. I love the distinctive glass panel with the inscriptions 'Studio 42' and 'ING. C. OLIVETTI & C., S.p.A. IVREA - ITALIA.' Bravo to Olivetti's attention to design detail.
This one was "imported" from Switzerland through the generosity of Florian of the blog Maschinengeschreiben.
Status: Typewriter Hunter
In a parallel universe, I was once the Senior Vice-President of Design (Typewriter Division) at Ing. C. Olivetti & C.,S.p.A., Ivrea, Italy. In the real universe, I'm a Chicago-based casual collector and hunter of Olivetti typewriters, and related ephemera, publications, and film sightings.
