1931 Royal 10

Serial #18-1507693

I'm not sure this is a Model 10 so if anyone can ID it better, please do. It has a full 18" of platen width. Note that the frame is not just a regular Royal frame, but it has extra bosses cast into the sides to mount the carriage support extensions. The windows look longer, too, though i haven't measured them yet.

While it is not unduly heavy, it is easiest to pick it up by the carriage supports like an Oliver.

The biggest problem right now is that it punches serious holes in the ribbon, even though the ribbon is advancing just fine. I'll post a type sample when the ribbon works better.

While I find all of mankind's inventions interesting, I am most enchanted by the human-scale arts and devices, the ones that can be created (and repaired) in a home workshop or studio; the ones that can be understood by looking at them; the ones that do something useful or stir admiration. Typewriters work for me.

A view of the carriage support mounting bosses. Note also the sheet metal edging around the base.

Tabs at the ready! You don't want to press the spacebar all the way across this platen!
