My daughter has been eyeing this machine for weeks at the local typewriter shop. This weekend, she spotted a Hermes 3K cursive at an estate sale for cheap and bought it with her own money, then traded it for this Adler Contessa cursive (we already have a 3K cursive and this was what she wanted; we also thought it would be unsportsmanlike to hoard 3K cursives). While it isn't nearly as substantial as the Hermes, it is a great typer and cheerful to behold. It's about mint, having been found in a barn in LaGrande, Oregon.
Status: Typewriter Hunter
I started collecting typewriters in 1996 when my employer at an old newsstand in Kalamazoo, MI gave me her mother's Underwood Elliot Fisher Noiseless; I love these machines and learning how to repair and maintain them. The Noiseless was the medium for a zine I wrote through the nineties and into the oughts, and my nine-year-old daughter now types regularly.
Professionally printed, coil bound workshop repair manuals.
