Was damaged in shipping from E*ay, having been shipping in a flat-rate USPS box that was actually a bit smaller than the typewriter. All of the pieces were still there in the box, so I decided to repair with superglue. I knew id have to fill, paint, and primer the repair to hide it, so I opted for a creamsicle-orange color scheme. Since it was from 1960's Germany I though it appropriate to use an OEM Volkswagen/Porsche color, which I got in spray can form from an auto paint shop supplier. Because I knew I'd cover the original logos, I took detailed reference photos of the Adler logo and the "MADE IN WESTERN GERMANY" text so that I could re-create them as waterslide decals on my computer. To preserve the 3 colored dimples for the ribbon color selector, I masked them with little balls of modeling clay before spraying the color coat. I thought the knobs and keys looked too different from each other, having yellowed different amounts over time. To remedy this, I retro-brite'd them with q-tips and hair salon developer.

When I repainted it, I painted over the original logo, so I re-drew it in Inkscape and made a water-slide decal out of it. Later Triumph/Adler Tippas had black logos, so I though changing from white to black was still more-or-less period-appropriate,

I am a retro post-punk meta-hipster, bassist, raconteur, techno-archivist, humorist, optimist, bon vivant and a fan of vinyl records, early 80's Japanese hi-fi gear, photography and obsolete but useful machines of all kinds. I am the proud owner of a 1970 Hermes 3000 and a 1940's Remington Rand typing desk.

I also created a typewriter image "filter" (see my avatar). It's written in Python and generates 65-character-wide images using over 1700 actual red-and-black-ribbon'd samples from my typewriter, meaning I could actually type them out myself on an 8 1/2" wide sheet of paper with 1" margins.

My dog Koa and I live in Buckeye, AZ.
