Description:
"Big Dipper aka Yellow Rose"
Another Torpedo...Oh my! This is the infamous $4K+ manual typewriter that supposedly sold on SGW at one time or another before I got ahold of it in October 2021. It is sporting a brand new platen from J.J. Short and Associates in New York and has a new set of 3d printed feet from Septimus Clark in addition to a deep cleaning done by Duane Jensen (Phoenix Typewriter).
Since I prefer the regular carriages, this wide-carriage (18/33) is quickly growing on me. From my understanding, 18/33 wide-carriage Torpedoes are not very common and just like my 1961 Torpedo 18b "Sunny," this is also more yellow than cream and seems to be a rare/hard to find color. This is one of my permanent residents or lifers!
Typesample lists 1960, instead of 1961, as the year of mfg.

Just a "Typewriter Nut". I like collecting technologies from the past such as typewriters especially the ones with special/rare typefaces. There's just something about learning how things were made (& worked) back in the day!
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Torpedo 18b on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Torpedo Serial Number page and the Torpedo 18b By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
