1911 Adler 7 Serial # 74444 1911 Adler 7 typewriter, Serial # 74444 Aaron Friedrich Lotar Rolf Klamp's 1911 Adler 7 typewriter. 2023-02-13 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Aaron Friedrich Lotar Rolf Klamp: 1911 Adler 7 Serial # 74444 This Adler Model 7 was a Gift from a fellow Collector I bought some Typewriters from in 2021.
He gave it to me with the words ,,This is the one to start with (collecting)“.
And what should I say, he was right. Despite that I already collected a few years before this Mod.7 fell into my hands, I learned while cleaning and repairing, that it´s simple mechanics combined with high quality manufacturing makes it easy to maintain, and also examplifies in its concept the transitional time between the „Wild West“ and the post Underwood Period of Typewriter production.
Speaking from repairs, there had to be done some minor things to bring it back to action. Besides the obligatory cleaning and gentle lubricating, I had to find new „old stock“ feed and replacement for roundabout ten missing keytops. Luckily another Collector came to my help, and supplied me with the needed parts. After a all that done and a new installed ribbon, everyhing works like it should, even over 110 years of service.
Speaking of it´s age, I really have to express my astonishment about the condition of the pressure roller. Judging from the milky white color of the rubber, it is made of pure „Kautschuk“, and not vulcanized. What amazes me about that, is that the pressure roller is still soft, flexible and in perfect condition.
Another observation is that the coverplate for the typelevers is not the original, as the reflection of the fully worn decals show the latest version of the Adler lettering. But I decided to leave it like that and not put new decals on it, as it is part of the history of this machine.
