1975 Sears Electric 1 Serial # 219783 1975 Sears Electric 1 typewriter, Serial # 219783 Mark Petersen's 1975 Sears Electric 1 typewriter. 2019-01-10 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Mark Petersen: 1975 Sears Electric 1 Serial # 219783 Maybe a little expensive at Goodwill for $13 but this machine is in excellent condition and was marked down from $24. The platen is so soft the letters punch through quite a bit! I do not see a copy selector anywhere which is too bad because I think I may be killing my ribbon with this machine. It performs very well though. It does not seem like a Smith Corona to me, like many Sears machines are. I suspect Brother but I do not know. It was made in Japan.

The action is very nice, and typing on this machine would be a joy were the keyboard not so high! It is pretty much on top of the machine. Not a great design.

And this machine has now been passed along to a young collector who I hope finds it exciting. I like buying these later electric cheap, and then handling them and using them to broaden my knowledge then let them go.

See how the cord is cleverly mounted to the top of the inside of the case. Also the bottom of the "case" is the bottom on the typewriter itself. Hence the high "waterline" (like on a ship) that kind of slims the design by being two tone...

This machine would look taller if it were just one color. This view should help you see how high the keys are mounted!

The bat-wing ribbon doors are peculiar and might be a clue as to what this machine really is (besides a Sears)

I have a few pics and my comp is slow, so give me a minute. Here is a sticker inside the case.

The machine is in like new condition so it is odd this is so worn. I think it would say "Electric 1"

Another maybe unhelpful photo but I am getting all words and numbers I can see anywhere on the machine.

Probably the best photo for your use Ted, and also some hand engraved numbers which are in two other places...

Very simple machine, the power source and switch and even the motor are like miniature afterthoughts. Look how small the motor is! WHY is this machine so frickin heavy?!?!
