Description:

I found this machine accidentally in a typewriter repair workshop, in Morelia, Michoacan (Mexico) at the end of the year 2016. xD

I decided just entering to see it. After discovering that a swap was possible, I gave my Olivetti Lettera 31 (2011-2016) in exchange of this (Hermes) Japy L 80, made in Brazil. xD

It's very similar with a Hermes Baby made between 1975 and 1979. It has a graduated paper bail, a paper holder and a cover that lets you transforming the typewriter in a sort of suitcase. xD

I loved it because of its square type style, that looks exactly like what my huge and giant Olympia SG 3 has. Its disadvantages are that platen must be elevated for using the uppercase letters instead of making the type basket going downwards, and the lack of the "+", the "=", the "!" and the "1". xD

I don't know the accurate year of manufacture, but I think it was made between 1964 and 1967, due to the serial number, although its appearance gets me confused a lot. I attempted to find out more about Japies in general, but it was useless; it's the first time in my life I see such a brand in Mexico. So, just let's see how resilient and snappy this machine is. I think that if Hermes (the brand) did it, it shares the same serial number that used ones by Hermes Baby series, and therefore, it's an Hermes Baby with other label and other color. xD

On January 2017, I gave it in exchange of another typewriter. It was Nice & Neat, but not for heavy-duty use. xD

I still use typewriters as writing machines, not just for collecting them. :P
