The Typewriter Database 195X Tower Tabulator Serial # T200142 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Richard Polt: 195X Tower Tabulator Serial # T200142 Like most basket-shifted Underwood portables, this is a good-looking typewriter whose fit and finish are substandard.

When I got it, the p and a typeslugs were too low. Nothing to do about that, given my skills, except adjust the vertical printing point, using two difficult-to-access screws on the bottom of the machine. The tab rack was messed up -- the little metal pieces that hold the tab stops in place were displaced so they didn't work. Nothing to do about that except look for a replacement part. Finally, the machine was skipping. A counterclockwise turn of the screw indicated in the photo in the gallery fixed that problem.

Result: an acceptable, but only acceptable typer!
