1955 Underwood De Luxe Serial # A2585023 1955 Underwood De Luxe typewriter, Serial # A2585023 Gerald Ambrose's 1955 Underwood De Luxe typewriter. 2017-10-22 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Gerald Ambrose: 1955 Underwood De Luxe Serial # A2585023 This was given to me by the same gentleman who gave me the Smith-Corona Corsair Deluxe. I have always liked these machines for their aesthetic design and the color combination.
But this machine is really nice to use as well.

Initially, I was having a problem with the variable line spacing being stuck engaged, making the line space lever not function properly.
So, I took the platen out and after trial and error found that a piece inside needed to be bent a certain way. Now it is working properly.

The only issue I am having now is the segment shift not returning to the lowercase position fully. Uppercase letters print fine, though.

The gentleman I got it from showed me under the dust cover the name "Linda Murray MGM."

Who knows if this means the machine was in Hollywood... but it leaves one to wonder....

Left the collection on 10/22/2017.

I started collecting typewriters several years ago and it started with a late 1960s Smith-Corona Sterling portable that I got as a gift.
