Description:
This is one of the most representative Olivetti models of all time.
In this case, it is a Hispano-Olivetti manufactured in Barcelona. These machines have been sold in Spain for a very long time, and are a example of durability.
This machine was sold to me by none other than the assembly chief of the plant in a perfect condition.
--- UPDATE ---
Uploaded new photos. I hope I do better justice to this awesome typewriter with the new ones.
Apart from that, there goes a bit of background:
I had acquired my first typewriters, and I needed a new ribbon for a Lexicon 80, so I went to PascualĀ“s workshop. I asked if apart from ribbons he could get typewriters, and he directly showed me this beauty. Note that we hadnĀ“t met before... I said I had to consider it, but in the end I was like **** it, this thing comes home with me and time will tell.
And time did tell. Along with a Linea 98 and a Lettera 32, that marked the beginning of my collection.
Maybe it was a bit expensive, but a fully functional and revised M40 is a machine for the next century and possibly more. And it was my first taste of a "classic" typewriter. More important: now Pascual and I are good friends.

The first typewriter I saw was my grandpa´s Olivetti Linea 98 at the office. It was just a curio for me. Then I was given a Nakajima, which I didn´t use and my grandfather took it from me because it was easier to handle than the bulky Linea 98. Now I own that typewriter, and I started a little collection in Valladolid, Spain. The Nakajima, which is "my" typewriter only returned home in 2017, almost 20 years later, when he wanted a better typewriter.
A collection that started small grew into something bigger, a nuisace for my family and a great source of satisfaction for me.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Hispano-Olivetti M40 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Hispano-Olivetti Serial Number page and the Hispano-Olivetti M40 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
