1924 Frolio FROLIO 7 Serial # 86333 1924 Frolio FROLIO 7 typewriter, Serial # 86333 fausto tomesani's 1924 Frolio FROLIO 7 typewriter. 2024-01-07 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of fausto tomesani: 1924 Frolio FROLIO 7 Serial # 86333 This is an Italian old typewriter, a “Frolio 7”, built around 1924. It is in his original wood and metal casing, with the handle, and here there are the hooks to open it.
You can see the design of this typewriter is different than the current ones. There isn't a keyboard but a pointer on a list of letters, numbers and symbols.
This typewriter was labeled “Frolio” by “Imex”, but the original producer was “Grundka Werke of Brandenburg”, a German toys factory who started producing also typewriters.
How does it work?
When you move the pointer, also the typewheel move itself.
There aren’t the levers with the characters, but a typewheel with letters.
This system has some advantages. If you use this typewriter in another nation, it's easy to change characters. You only change the typewheel, and the plate with the letters.
Here we have the Italian layout, with the more common letters in the middle, and accented letters, very common in Italian language.

If you look at the typewheel there are 3 lines of letters. Lowercase letters on the top, uppercase letters in the middle, and numbers and symbols on the last line.

There are 3 buttons here. Normally you write in lowercase letters, so you don't have to press anything. If you press the yellow button on the left you can write in uppercase letters.
By pressing the blue button you can write numbers and symbols, always selecting the character with the pointer.
The red button is the space bar.
And if you press it you can also move freely the upper typewriter roller.

I inherited a collection of around 400 old typewriters and calculators from my father, who collected them for 50 years.
I also have a YouTube channel featuring these typewriters.
The pictures are made by my wife who is a photographer. Her name is Milena.
This gallery is managed by her,
So if you like the pictures don't thank me but her.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Frolio FROLIO 7 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Frolio Serial Number page and the Frolio FROLIO 7 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
