1957 Royal Quiet De Luxe

Serial #AE-3535381

AE3535381 - I had to temporarily remove the screw to make sure the first letter was an "A" -- the type slugs say "CY" on them, but, other than elite, I don't know what font this is.

I've wanted a QDL since I started getting on the net forums last year and saw how many of them were in collector's hands. So I had to buy this sand colored one for $30 when I saw it at the Re-Store. My first impressions are that it uses a segment shift (positive), has a draw string instead of a draw tape (negative), sounds very nice and tight (positive), and has an elite font that is only "somewhat" serif (negative).
This one still has dirt and white-out smudges and needs some adjustment to produce better print quality. The bottoms of most of the letters are fainter than they should be.
I note that this is one of the later models of QDL with the 1/! and the +/= keys. It took me a long time and some research before I figured out how to tip the paper table back to reveal the tab sets.

The pounding typebar, having writ, moves on... unless there's a ding.
