1964 Olympia SF

Serial #95-879098

I was pretty happy with this buy at a local antiques fair. I left 42 typewriters behind, including a nice Royal Varsity and a reasonable Royal Commander, but couldn't resist this guy for $30. It types really well and looks great. The serial number is kind of sketchy, almost literally as someone clearly scratched the serial number onto the machine. I don't have another SF to compare it to, but it looks as if they've scratched over the original serial on the right top side of the carriage, so I can't 100% guarantee the year of manufacture. Whatever. Looks great, types great, and can't beat this robin's egg blue.

I have suddenly become a typewriter collector. It started with one purchase and has ballooned to a collection of more than forty in less than a year. I'm learning fast but I'm still a novice compared to others in the typosphere, including here in Toronto, where I haunt thrift shops and antique markets, and even the occasional basement. I'm a former magazine writer and published author, and a professional book editor by trade, and I learned to type on manuals despite the proliferation of electrics, so I like to think I come by my sudden and rather manic passion honestly.
