1969 Olympia SM9

Serial #3820985

The beautiful 1969 Olympia SM9. What a beautiful machine to behold. Understated lines and color scheme give this a look of a very plain, utilitarian typewriter, but the fact is, it's anything but utilitarian in function.

Before I actively began collecting, I'd been looking for an SM9 because of the typewriter reviews I'd read. Since I'm a writer, I figured it would be the best one for me, and began my search. Unfortunately, the ones I did find, had price tags a bit higher than I was willing or able to purchase, and decided to keep looking.

Since then, a year has passed and I have acquired a total of 15 typewriters, some of which have been gifted to family and friends. I had the good fortune of stumbling across this beautiful SM9 on a Goodwill auction, and won it for $29. I was expecting something in need of cosmetic and mechanical repairs. What I got was perfection with a little dust that blew out easily.

Everything about this machine is smooth. I'd read great reviews and seen videos, but they honestly don't do the machine justice. You really need to use it to fully appreciate it. What a beautiful example of good German engineering at it's finest.

I'm Crystal. I am a newspaper-published writer, Novelist-in-progress, blogger, former Behavior Specialist, and an Ordained Minister. I absolutely love typewriters, and am growing a small collection. I have raised five sons to adulthood, and yet, I can't keep potted plants alive more than a month. My husband and I spend way too much time together, but that's okay.
