1948 Underwood Champion

This machine was purchased from a guy who got it as a graduation gift when he graduated from high school in 1969. He was told it was a brand new typewriter. He told me it was made in 1969.
It was used for several papers and then stored. When it came into my possession it was severely damaged in several places, including a whole corner missing on the paper tray in the back.
The case was given to JP Huard to house a much superior naked machine.
The mainspring motor was donated in a transplant to save a US Navy WW2 veteran in my collection.
A front foot was removed and damaged in an experiment before replacing feet on the US Navy machine.
It has been accidentally showered with green overspray from another project.
It has been tossed yards from my porch into a foot of snow, and left there until the snow melted.
It offered a shift key to an Underwood Leader which was missing one.
It now serves as the doorstop on my porch. It is a giver, not a taker.
