Finally, a Royal 10 at home!
A true classic along with the Underwood 5 and the Hispano Olivetti M40 (Spain only), this is a good and sturdy typewriter. I´ve been looking for one for a while, trying to find it at a decent price. These kind of typewriters suffer from the "Black Typewriter Plague", and it´s the typewriter what´s black not the plague.
Explanation: if a typewriter is black and looks as old as the bubonic plague, then it must have an outrageous price, period. The Royal 10 fits perfectly into this category, hence it suffers from Black Typewriter Plague.
This specimen was noticeably cheaper, but it also needs repairs and cleaning. Everything works, but needs fine adjustment and not-so-fine cleaning. The wors part is that it needs some replacements, as a feed roller, the paper bail rollers and maybe the carriage knobs. And the platen would be happy with some care as well... Rubber parts have suffered the march of time. Apparently, this typewriter has ben lying for decades at a warehouse, but it preserves the durability of the Royal 5.
The surprising part are the glass panels, which are in good condition. What I don´t know is wether they´re the original ones or not.

The first typewriter I saw was my grandpa´s Olivetti Linea 98 at the office. It was just a curio for me. Then I was given a Nakajima, which I didn´t use and my grandfather took it from me because it was easier to handle than the bulky Linea 98.
Now I own that typewriter, and I started a little collection in Valladolid, Spain. The Nakajima, which is "my" typewriter is the only one which is NOT in my collection. How ironic...
Things then got... complex. I moved from Valladolid to my village, and suddenly found myself with a lot of room available at home, so the small collection is turning into something bigger, a nuisace for my family and a great source of satisfaction for me.
The Platen Ridge.
Apparently, the Madrid Typewriter Trust brought many Royal 10´s to Spain. This is one of them.
Classic Royal ribbon spools. Beautiful and in this case "somewhat" dirty.
Rust? Where? There´s no rust at all!
Spanish setion of the keyboard: the Ñ key doesn´t have its capitals version (weird), the opening question mark has a weird symbol (upper right corner) and I don´t know what´s next to the Ñ. An even weirder ampersand?
