2002 Mehano C193 Serial # NA 2002 Mehano C193 typewriter, Serial # NA Mark Petersen's 2002 Mehano C193 typewriter. 2015-01-27 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Mark Petersen: 2002 Mehano C193 Serial # NA This machine is pretty odd. I have no ribbon for it, and though I was missing half the cartridge but closer inspection suggests I am not. It looks like the ribbon sits coiled in the cartridge somewhat arbitrarily, and then comes out and makes a complete circuit through the vibrator and to the other side and back. It is motivated by being passed THROUGH two tiny little gears' cogs which seems stupid because based on the lack of dirt in my machine I suspect this had to be a carbon ribbon. I tied to photograph this, but it's really hard to show you in a picture.
Oddly the typebars are pulled by a semi-elastic plastic tubing, which I also photographed for you.
One cool thing is that the keys depress straight down. Type feel is pretty bad but better than a Buddy L. I forced a type sample of my name by mounting some ribbon scrap in the vibrator.
THE RIBBON COVER is NOT attached in the main photo, it is held in by screws which is super annoying and I am not going to screw it back together until I find a ribbon for this machine if I ever do. So it does usually sit flush.
This was given as a gag gift from a friend who saw it at Goodwill.
