1977 Erika 50 Serial # 5736157 1977 Erika 50 typewriter, Serial # 5736157 Javier Vazquez del Olmo's 1977 Erika 50 typewriter. 2015-06-04 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Javier Vazquez del Olmo: 1977 Erika 50 Serial # 5736157 This typewriter has needed two previous steps to be here, working and properly identified.

First, it was quite cheap, looked in excellent condition and I thought it was a good deal. Then, AGAIN, it didn´t work. The return lever and the platen were jammed, so it needed several hours of tinkering between cleaning and fixing.

Then it was time to identify it, and I have found the clues I needed at Nick Tauriainen´s website: X over it. You might have heard of that ;) Big thanks for your site!

I was not sure whether this was an Erika or not. Looked like it, but I have finally learned it´s indeed an Erika. This Daro Optima is in fact an Erika 50, which makes me wonder: how should I categorize it? Daro or Erika? And now another issue: I have noticed the autospacer is the same as in this Olympia Regina Deluxe (see links), and upon closer look it turns out the keyboard is exactly the same. Then, Erika has branded its machines as Daro and Olympia. I find it quite interesting.

After repairing (with some high level help) it works perfectly fine. I like it, and as it tends to happen with most of typewriters in Spain, it has seen quite little use.

The first typewriter I saw was my grandpa´s Olivetti Linea 98 at the office. It was just a curio for me. Then I was given a Nakajima, which I didn´t use and my grandfather took it from me because it was easier to handle than the bulky Linea 98. Now I own that typewriter, and I started a little collection in Valladolid, Spain. The Nakajima, which is "my" typewriter only returned home in 2017, almost 20 years later, when he wanted a better typewriter.

A collection that started small grew into something bigger, a nuisace for my family and a great source of satisfaction for me.
