1973 Olivetti Linea 98 Serial # 4087279 1973 Olivetti Linea 98 typewriter, Serial # 4087279 Erik Bruchez's 1973 Olivetti Linea 98 typewriter. 2018-06-13 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Erik Bruchez: 1973 Olivetti Linea 98 Serial # 4087279 I got this machine at an estate sale because my son asked me to buy it. It was very cheap and so I just did. It came with an ugly gray color on top of which some kinds of markings had been made. I didn't like them. So I repainted it blue.

The machine had some typebars which were very stuck. I had to resort to brake cleaner in the end. Some kind of glue from the typebar rest had melted and got stuck in the segment. Now this is fixed. But for some reason the carriage is heavy on this machine. I am not sure it was initially the case.

The typebar rest still needs to be cleaned and glued back.

I started collecting my first pre-WW2 standard typewriters in 2017. Since then I have added a few machines to my collection, which now ranges from the 1890s to the 1980s. As of 2020, I have more big standard (desktop) typewriters than portables, and a few standard electrics.
