1970 Olympia SG3

Serial #7-2600617

This powerful machine belonged to my grandfather´s brother, and it was used at an office. In theory it was going to replace an old (and impressive) Hispano Lexicon 80 with brand new German engineering, but finally the Lexicon 80 has remained at the office, still in use due to personal prefereence. And that is how I got my hands on this machine, which had been sitting next to a nice plant for years. That explains the dry leaves I found inside...

Apart from that, this 70´s model is really tough. Made to last and not to fit through a door, so wide is the carriage. Whith just a bit of maintenance it is again active, and as usual with such great machines, working like new.

Apparently, the SG3 was widely used in Mexico as the "official" typewriter. Many offices used (and still use) this superb machine.

I think I have located the exact year of this monster. If I´m right it is 1970.

The first typewriter I saw was my grandpa´s Olivetti Linea 98 at the office. It was just a curio for me. Then I was given a Nakajima, which I didn´t use and my grandfather took it from me because it was easier to handle than the bulky Linea 98.

Now I own that typewriter, and I started a little collection in Valladolid, Spain. The Nakajima, which is "my" typewriter is the only one which is NOT in my collection. How ironic...

Things then got... complex. I moved from Valladolid to my village, and suddenly found myself with a lot of room available at home, so the small collection is turning into something bigger, a nuisace for my family and a great source of satisfaction for me.
