196X Smith Corona Corsair Deluxe Serial # 6YC939682 196X Smith Corona Corsair Deluxe typewriter, Serial # 6YC939682 Kyle Oelofse's 196X Smith Corona Corsair Deluxe typewriter. 2020-08-22 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Kyle Oelofse: 196X Smith Corona Corsair Deluxe Serial # 6YC939682 Besides its inner workings, this whole machine is made of plastic. Understandable, as it fought the battle of affordability instead of quality. Unlike its larger predecessors, this machine's case is just a plastic cover that latches onto its frame; the bottom of the typewriter doubles as the case for that side. The keys are identical to those found on SCM's other portables of the era. The small-diameter platen tends to coil the paper a bit during typing, and this particular machine has some vertical alignment issues.

Overall it's not a bad machine for what it is, though what it is isn't much.

I inherited two Royal KMMs as a kid. Over a decade later I started actively collecting and repairing in 2015 shortly after discovering the existence of "weird" typewriters like the Blickensderfer and Hammond, and finding a destroyed Super Sterling to experiment on.
