1966 Olivetti-Underwood 21 Serial # 678556 1966 Olivetti-Underwood 21 typewriter, Serial # 678556 Scott O's 1966 Olivetti-Underwood 21 typewriter. 2015-10-07 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Scott O: 1966 Olivetti-Underwood 21 Serial # 678556 If the Model 21 were painted black it would undoubtedly be Darth Vader's official typewriter.

The angular design reminds me of a smaller version of the Olivetti Lexikon 82, only with 1960s-era Underwood key tops. Underneath it shares most of the same mechanicals as the Olivetti Studio 44. The Studio 44 and 21 were sold in the U.S. at the same time and even appeared together in Consumer Reports reviews of period!

I especially like the Pica typeface - it reminds me of the "Congress" style typeface Olivetti sometimes used for its smaller typefaces, only without the bold effect.

I bought this from a fellow Typospherian though did not know it before we met. We knew we were kindred spirits after bumping into each other again 15 minutes later at the local Goodwill!
