1966 Consul 221 Serial # 6 221 002631 1966 Consul 221 typewriter, Serial # 6 221 002631 Javier Vazquez del Olmo's 1966 Consul 221 typewriter. 2016-08-02 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Javier Vazquez del Olmo: 1966 Consul 221 Serial # 6 221 002631 The more Consul typewriters I try, the more convinced I am they´re great.

Maybe Consul is not one of the big brands that always spring to mind, maybe it comes from a place not many other typewriters come from, maybe they´re not the most beautiful typewriters (still, there are some gorgeous Consuls), maybe they´re not the most desired... But for sure they´re good. Definitely good.

This tough guy competes against the likes of the Olympia SM5 or Torpedo 18b, and it can hold its ground. It´s a real workhorse, and preserves a lot of character. With their square keytops Consul typewriters have a pretty unique feel, and are everything-proof.

I stole it at 18 €, and it´s in extremely good condition. As I said, Consuls aren´t the most sought after machines, and that lowers their prices.

The first typewriter I saw was my grandpa´s Olivetti Linea 98 at the office. It was just a curio for me. Then I was given a Nakajima, which I didn´t use and my grandfather took it from me because it was easier to handle than the bulky Linea 98. Now I own that typewriter, and I started a little collection in Valladolid, Spain. The Nakajima, which is "my" typewriter only returned home in 2017, almost 20 years later, when he wanted a better typewriter.

A collection that started small grew into something bigger, a nuisace for my family and a great source of satisfaction for me.
