195X Siemens 68D Serial # unknown 195X Siemens 68D typewriter, Serial # unknown Guillermo Fernandez Boan's 195X Siemens 68D typewriter. 2016-06-29 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Guillermo Fernandez Boan: 195X Siemens 68D Serial # unknown This black machine is the European Armies version (there was another version, in beige, suited to civil use). I've borrowed a stock photo of the civil version, in order to compare between both models. The civil version is the telephone dial model. Mine (without telephone dial) was usually the interface of a cipher machine.
It types text as a single line onto a gummed paper strip, Possibly you remember old telegrams like lines of gummed paper strips containing the message (cipher or text). The gummed paper was in a huge roll under the teletype (look at the photo). This one arrives home with a full gummed paper roll.
I can not say if it is in operative condition. Looks like everything is in its place but I do not have the electric cord.
It is a compact and massive (20 kg) memento of Cold War times.
