1959 Remington Travel-Riter Serial # TR613758 1959 Remington Travel-Riter typewriter, Serial # TR613758 Scott Jones's 1959 Remington Travel-Riter typewriter. 2017-12-08 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Scott Jones: 1959 Remington Travel-Riter Serial # TR613758 This typewriter was discovered at an antique shop in Butler, Pennsylvania. Inside the case was found a card from the original place of purchase, "Oscar's Business Machines" of Butler, PA. The reverse lists the puchaser's name, Linda K- also of Butler. Also inside were the Operating Instructions, decorated a bit with a child's yellow crayon.

It must have been stored in its case whenever not in use--it is in excellent shape, cosmetically and mechanically. The rear is printed, "MADE IN HOLLAND." It's a clever little thing; the lines obviously evoke a miniature Quiet-Riter. Only one mathematical key (degree symbol/division sign) sticks--I'll have to get that freed up. The type slugs are in terrific shape, not gummed up with ink. A hefty amount of force is necessary to make decent impressions. It types well, but I would hardly call the action snappy. It types rather loudly. I also notice that when I pick up the speed, typebars tend to get hung up on each other. The case is wooden, covered with a varnished brown fabric that is only lightly scuffed in the corners. All in all, I'm glad I made the acquisition.

Hi there! I'm married, with two sons, 19 and 15, living in western PA, about 45 min. north of Pittsburgh. I'm in the clergy, so naturally I do a lot of writing, and find typewriters to be of great worth in drafting my various sermons, articles and lessons. I love tons of analog things, such as typewriters, fountain pens, paper books, and vinyl turntables--though I'm not above using their digital counterparts. I'm happiest, though, when I can work in my office, pretending I'm in a bygone decade. I'm new to typewriter collecting, with seven machines, but I've barely gotten started. Looking forward to learning from this community!
