1951 Gossen Tippa Serial # 47220 1951 Gossen Tippa typewriter, Serial # 47220 Mark Petersen's 1951 Gossen Tippa typewriter. 2018-03-09 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Mark Petersen: 1951 Gossen Tippa Serial # 47220 This is one of the best typewriters I have ever acquired. It's gorgeous, it feels good to type on, it's small and light, it's well made and cleverly designed, and it has a full history that is no where near over!

Paraphrased from a letter included with the machine:
The first owner was trained as a salesman for the optics company Carl Zeiss from 1949-1954 where among other things he was taught typing. In spite of suggestions or larger machines from his typing instructor he chose the Tippa.
After Germany the owner and machine went to Cairo, Egypt until the Suez War.
After that Nairobi in Kenya.
After that Johannesburg and later Cape Town in South Africa.
Next it was back in Germany, in Cologne.
Not long after it was in Canada, first Toronto and later Niagara in Ontario.
Then it moved much more recently to its second owner, Richard Polt, in Cincinnati Ohio in the USA.
In 2018 it was picked up in Cincinnati by myself and brought to Christiansburg, Virginia where it expects to do plenty of writing in plenty of new places.

I adore this machine. It is easily in my top 5 most treasured, and probably my top 2 favorite to write on... I am super grateful that Richard decided my home was a worthy place for it and offered me a wonderful opportunity to add it to my life!
