1939 Royal Quiet De Luxe Serial # A-875150 1939 Royal Quiet De Luxe typewriter, Serial # A-875150 Tom Beauvais's 1939 Royal Quiet De Luxe typewriter. 2017-09-19 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Tom Beauvais: 1939 Royal Quiet De Luxe Serial # A-875150 Michigan antique mall purchase. Well since this model (Quiet De Luxe) was supposedly Hemingway's favorite typewriter I guess I had to have one in addition to the Corona 3. The late models had the square keycaps so I like this one with the round ones. Upon lifting the ribbon cover 6 keybars were sticking up slightly from the normal relaxed position -- A, S, D and G, B, H. However on doing the type specimen the machine performed well except for those above-named keybars. I needed to use carbon paper. The type alignment seemed fine.

Changed my collecting priorities to portables except the Olympia SG3 with the cyrillic keyboard and my Underwood No. 5--those beasts are too heavy. Sold my earlier typewriters to a friend. I had too many. I use carbon paper for typefaces when the machines have faint ribbons. I take photos with my Canon Powershot SX50HS (50x optical zoom and macro settings). I find it difficult doing typeface specimens since I use a Corsair K70 RGB gaming keyboard plugged into my 15-in Macbook. I got it solely for the deep key travel. I have fun hunting machines in antique malls in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana.
