1940 Imperial 50 Serial # Z132596 1940 Imperial 50 typewriter, Serial # Z132596 Plante and Doole-Fisher Typewriters's 1940 Imperial 50 typewriter. 2019-07-09 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Plante and Doole-Fisher Typewriters: 1940 Imperial 50 Serial # Z132596 This typewriter was traded for some restoration work done on a painting back in February of 2013. It is a very nice machine to use, and feels great to type on. The build quality of this machine is exceptional. It has the experimental mechanism that allows the user to remove the segment and keys from the machine which allows easier access for maintenance and cleaning, which was installed in most Imperial standard typewriters, and remarkably, this mechanism seems to have significantly contributed to this typewriter's quality of survival as the machine was exceptionally clean when it was obtained. This particular No. 50 is labeled with "War Finish" under the Imperial emblem, which indicates a rather unusual trait that this machine has and that is that the entire mechanism has been coated with rifle bluing, in order to conquer corrosion. You can tell some keys have been replaced over the years as the replacements do not have this coating. There are not many Imperial 50 typewriters out there that featured this. It makes you think what it was used for.
