1932 Remington Portable 4 Serial # V501804 1932 Remington Portable 4 typewriter, Serial # V501804 Liam O Sullivan's 1932 Remington Portable 4 typewriter. 2016-02-10 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Liam O Sullivan: 1932 Remington Portable 4 Serial # V501804 As I am willing to bet that many have before me, I will thank Richard Polt for publishing a handy catalogue of interbellum Remington Portables in their many shapes and forms on his webpage, without reference to which I likely would not have been prompted to even bid on this typewriter.

I happened upon it at eBay auction, near the end, too late to ask the seller for a serial number or a rear-facing photo. But I noticed the paper guide as unusual for a #3 (I guess? I'm no expert here) and decided to chance it.

It came to me in really good condition, unscratched and seemingly unused, notwithstanding the usual crumbling bits of hard rubber shattered off the screws that fasten the body to the base. Everything moves smoothly, without gum. The case has a lovely feathered design stencilled on the lining -- as though drawn by Jack Frost -- and comes complete with an interior compartment for extra storage.

I am also keen on the tabular assembly. It has these neat little shims that detach completely in order to set position. Sadly, however, the tab functioning isn't that robust. As green as this looks, I still have to treat it as a senior citizen.

Fell in love with a Quiet Deluxe won at auction. Now I am a neophyte typewriter enthusiast.
