I spotted this Underwood No. 5 in an antique shop that I frequent about a month ago and was taken aback by is condition!
The nickel was in very nice shape and the decals were very good (apart from the slight wear to the one on the left front of the frame). Mechanically it worked very well upon testing.
Once I got it home and really started using it I began wondering why I hadn't got one sooner! I see now why they were so popular.
Everyone needs to have a Underwood No. 5 in their collection!
Update 11-15-2016:
when I first bought this machine I noticed that the material that the typebars rest on has writing sown into it about patent information. I was curious if this was the same for all Underwood No. 3s, 4s, and 5s and if anyone else has seen this before.
It is hard to get a picture of the whole thing, but I will try to post it in a couple of pictures.
