1924 Victor 10 Serial # 54222 1924 Victor 10 typewriter, Serial # 54222 Javier Vazquez del Olmo's 1924 Victor 10 typewriter. 2017-05-19 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Javier Vazquez del Olmo: 1924 Victor 10 Serial # 54222 From time to time I try to rescue a rust bucket, and it invariably ends up the same way: I have to ask Pascual for help because this is too much for me. I hope I can break the trend someday.

Victors are far from frequent here, and even less in my city where I can just walk and pick it. Even in the sorry state it is in, I think I´ve made a good purchase.

This one is currently away, being repaired at Pascual´s workshop. It´s rusty and abused. There´s even a missing typeslug, I don´t know if there´s any way to fix that which doesn´t involve taking it from another Victor... But anyway, if this thing ends up "working", that is, I can write a line of text with it, I´d be happy.

The date is a guess, but it should be near the end of the run for these beautiful beasts.

--- UPDATE ---

Confirmed by professionals: Nothing can be done. Too many missing pieces, so this Victor 10 will (probably) never type again. You´d have to "kill" another Victor 10 to revive this one, so it´s going to be one of the very few non-functional typewriters of my collection.

A bad ending...

The first typewriter I saw was my grandpa´s Olivetti Linea 98 at the office. It was just a curio for me. Then I was given a Nakajima, which I didn´t use and my grandfather took it from me because it was easier to handle than the bulky Linea 98. Now I own that typewriter, and I started a little collection in Valladolid, Spain. The Nakajima, which is "my" typewriter only returned home in 2017, almost 20 years later, when he wanted a better typewriter.

A collection that started small grew into something bigger, a nuisace for my family and a great source of satisfaction for me.
