1922 Remington 11 Serial # LS23444 1922 Remington 11 typewriter, Serial # LS23444 Plante and Doole-Fisher Typewriters's 1922 Remington 11 typewriter. 2018-03-08 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Plante and Doole-Fisher Typewriters: 1922 Remington 11 Serial # LS23444 This 1922 Remington No.11 came with a 1930 Underwood No.3 and a 1933 Remington No.16 that both went to a vintage themed local cafe. The No.11 I kept as it is a bit more uncommon than the #12 equivalent that Remington produced at the same time. The No.11 featured a decimal calculator either below or above the keyboard, depending on the year of manufacture. Other than that it features an extra-large paper table as well as double margins. But besides that it is pretty much the same as the Remington No.12. The machine types exceptionally well. So good that I used it as my regular go-to typewriter for a long time. The feet were completely disintegrating so I got some rubber bumpers from the local D.I.Y. store and that was an excellent solution. Other than that, I had to tend to some corrosion issues in the back that the machine suffered from, mainly on the carriage. You can see in some of the photographs that the flash captured some of the patina on the typewriter still present. However, it looks worse in the photos than it does in person. The paint is in very good cosmetic condition with very minor blemishes only. There was some flaking present when I first got the machine. The previous owner had used scotch tape to tape two screws that had come out to the paper-table, for a lengthy amount of time. Sadly when I remove the tape, it took the paint with it. The paper-table has aged the most. I bought some glossy paint from a R.C. hobby store and touched that up, as well as damaged paint below the tabulator indicators. I spend about 4 hours buffing the paint with turtle wax and it came out absolutely beautiful. The pellet weight for the tabulator had lost some bearings over the years so I replaced some of those, and now that is back up to code.
The colour-selector on this typewriter is the updated version that was introduced when the No.12 came on the market. The No.11 was manufactured while the No.10 was for sale, and continued as it's successor took over, pretty much for the entire second run. This typewriter still has open body paneling, which was later enclosed when the No.12 received an update.
This machine as far as I know was never available with a left-hand carriage return arm.
