another yard sale find that I had to ask for, and this uncovered two of them. This one seems pretty good. It has an cranked escapement drive to tension the carriage return spring.
I thought the carriage shifting was very heavy and then noticed that it is missing an assist spring that the other No. 3 has. And it is super accessible and of a size that I'm sure any hardware store has. Love these old ones!
Status: Typewriter Hunter
While I find all of mankind's inventions interesting, I am most enchanted by the human-scale arts and devices, the ones that can be created (and repaired) in a home workshop or studio; the ones that can be understood by looking at them; the ones that do something useful or stir admiration. Typewriters work for me.
This is a very different Spool mounting arrangement from the other No. 3 I am listing here. There are many differences, but, after all, they are six years and almost a quarter million serial numbers apart.
Professionally printed, coil bound workshop repair manuals.
