191X Virotyp Desk model Serial # C 6334 191X Virotyp Desk model typewriter, Serial # C 6334 Guillermo Fernandez Boan's 191X Virotyp Desk model typewriter. 2017-01-21 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Guillermo Fernandez Boan: 191X Virotyp Desk model Serial # C 6334 Mr. Georg Sommereger's Virotyp shown in this Database is, according Mr. Paul Robert's Virtual Typewriter Museum, the "Early desk model".
Mine is then the last incarnation ("Desk model") of this strange index typerwriter.
But Mr. Sommereger's Virotyp is # 9323 (no prefix), and mine (being a later model) has # C 6334 clearly stamped in its metal base (see the picture).
The Museu de la Tecnica de l'Emporda has another Virotyp whose serial number have also the "C" prefix.
Perhaps serial numbers are not strictly reliable in this typewriter models.
This one is complete, operative (I apologize for the humble typeface specimen sample I add here, I am still trying to learn how to properly use this machine).
Is a typewriter very well and cleverly built.
The two ink rollers are present, the daisywheel containing the letters and numbers is complete and you can turn it smoothly by means of the black wooden knob.
There is even a bell concealed in the middle of the daisywheel (and it sounds!!!).
There are levers to close the lid and another ones to open the typewriter in order to put a paper inside (an A4 paper goes well inside). There are two rubber rolls to get a strong grip of the paper (there are pictures of the rolls, take a look).
And finally two screws that you can operate manually allow you to split in two the Virotyp.
