191x Reliance Visible Serial # 56492 191x Reliance Visible typewriter, Serial # 56492 Enrico Morozzi's 191x Reliance Visible typewriter. 2017-04-24 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Enrico Morozzi: 191x Reliance Visible Serial # 56492 The Reliance is a re-branded Pittsburgh mod.11 typewriter.
This machine was made after Mondgomery & Ward bought thr former Pittsburgh factory in 1913, and tried to sell its self-made typewriter.
Despite this typewriter works really good, and it is very easy to use and clean, and despite a very affordable price, it couldn't reach success on the market.
Maybe because typers preferred a 2nd hand Underwood n. 5 than some "cheap" Reliance, maybe because it really looks like a 19th century machine, or maybe because of the Daugherty curse (Daugherty and Pittsburgh were both unlucky companies).
Anyway It's a nice typewriter, easy to use and to dissassembly, with a very light segment shift and a very good backspace.
Of course Royal 10, Underwood 5 and L.C. Smith n.2 were far better for serious typing, but all these typewriters were around 100$, while this one was only 48,50$...
