Description:
This American Writing Machine Co. Century 10 is an eBay purchase. According to the seller, the typewriter was part of building clean-out in an old part of St. Louis, MO.
The machine is compact, weighing about 17lbs. I love the size. It is a cousin of the Remington Junior (1914-1921).
The typewriter has distinctive tilted ribbon spools. It is a three-bank with a basket shift that shifts down for capital letters and up for figures.
This machine is sadly missing its paper table with the large “Century” decal. It is also missing its rear rubber feet and left ribbon crank handle. The paper release lever’s head is broken off.
It types splendidly.
The Century 10’s serial number is stamped inside the machine on a center bar under the basket.
