1914 Blickensderfer 9 Serial # 174408 1914 Blickensderfer 9 typewriter, Serial # 174408 Tyler Anderson's 1914 Blickensderfer 9 typewriter. 2016-07-08 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Tyler Anderson: 1914 Blickensderfer 9 Serial # 174408 Of all the machines which have eluded me thus far, Blickensderfers and Hammonds are at the top of the list. I had previously acquired a Rem-Blick, but it cant be considered a true Blickensderfer in my mind. BUT! Now, I DO have a real Blickensderfer! And its got a QWERTY keyboard to boot! I was ecstatic to find it.

This number 9 has the outstanding frame around its keyboard which has beautiful gold pinstriping. It has the awesome folding arm, and a very beautiful sounding bell.

Currently this machine is far from operational, as the carriage needs to be rebuilt (and given a new platen and feed roller), and the mechanism itself is jammed up. This machine will definitely be a keeper.

Mr. Richard Polt estimates that 9,000 of the Model 9 were produced. I am proud to own one.

Typesample will come when I can actually get it to produce one. The typewheel on it looks to be a standard font, definitely no cursive or fancy stuff.

EDIT: This machine is getting the Uber deep clean. Thus, I have uploaded pictures of it in various stages of deconstruction for those who need such references.

Update: I only had to shelve the machine for a few months, but I finally got around to having the patience to work on it again. And, it just so happens, that I was able to finally get it working properly. My notes on messing around with the tuning screws can be found at http://wordsarewinged.blogspot.com/2016/07/how-to-properly-tune-blickensderfer.html, though they are only useful to those with a machine that has had said screws tampered with. Otherwise, DO NOT TOUCH THE FACTORY SET TUNING SCREWS FOR THE LOVE OF GEORGE BLICKENSDERFER, SO HELP ME CHRISTOPHER LATHAM SHOLES. Youll have a bad time.
