The Typewriter Database 197X Olivetti Valentine S Serial # 5684233 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Javier Vazquez del Olmo: 197X Olivetti Valentine S Serial # 5684233 Little more can be said about the Valentine, but my friend, the former chief of the assembly department of the Olivetti plant in Barcelona did say domething:

"Yes, very nice and beautiful, but there are far better Olivettis."

And indeed, it´s not the best Olivetti but it still types bautifully. Really easy to use and precise, but I prefer the Pluma 22 and the Lettera 32 over it. This typewriter has been made in Barcelona, so the serial number does not match with Italian Olivettis.

The guy who was selling it assured it worked like new, but guess what: it was dead. At least I could get it at a decent price, considering how OVERPRICED these things are. The price was not that decent after the repairs (which included some work with the case), so overall I´m not fully satisfied with it

And I have a question: What´s the difference between a Valentine and a Valentine S?

The first typewriter I saw was my grandpa´s Olivetti Linea 98 at the office. It was just a curio for me. Then I was given a Nakajima, which I didn´t use and my grandfather took it from me because it was easier to handle than the bulky Linea 98.

Now I own that typewriter, and I started a little collection in Valladolid, Spain. The Nakajima, which is "my" typewriter is the only one which is NOT in my collection. How ironic...

Things then got... complex. I moved from Valladolid to my village, and suddenly found myself with a lot of room available at home, so the small collection is turning into something bigger, a nuisace for my family and a great source of satisfaction for me.
