This was the first typewriter I bought while my wife and I were dating. Since then, we've made many trips to antique stores together. The sticker from Raleigh, North Carolina is a nice touch. President Andrew Johnson was born there.

The President is a clone of the Smith Corona Super 5, and Sears made many other machines under license for various companies. It types well, but has a very noisy carriage return. If you open the paper feed clamp, the ruler under the platen will rattle like crazy when pressing the keys. I'm thinking of trying out the Polt Silencer and see if that'll help the noise.

I wrote a story on this machine called "The Nimrod Lexicon." It will appear in the Bards and Sages Lost Relics anthology in March 2016.

I am a professional historian and writer. I have been collecting typewriters since 2013, and use them for all of my work (novels, short stories, poetry, non-fiction, and personal letters). I have a passion for all things antique, but hold a special place for these tools. Some of my collection is up for sale or trade, so if you see something you want, let me know!
