1965 Remington Monarch 1 Serial # IY-534535 1965 Remington Monarch 1 typewriter, Serial # IY-534535 Dan Weaver's 1965 Remington Monarch 1 typewriter. 2018-02-19 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Dan Weaver: 1965 Remington Monarch 1 Serial # IY-534535 I picked up this Remington Monarch 1 at a Salvation Army store in October, 2017 for $12.99, along with a carrying case. I'm a little unsure of it's age-- my serial number begins with IY- however, the other Monarch 1s on this site because with NY-, so I'm unsure of it's age. I saw the IY- prefix on another Monarch, but as this one is clearly marked Monarch 1, I'm unsure of what to assume.

Aesthetically, this one is not my favorite, though it does seem to be a workhorse-- it can handle heavy-duty typing without jamming (for the most part.) It did require a little cleaning when I first bought it, as a few of the typebars were jamming, but it's been fixed up and runs well now.

My seven year old has unofficially adopted this one, and he is currently busy writing a "zombies on the Titanic" novel on it.

A typeface specimen will be provided once I picked up a new ribbon-- the one that came in it is so old and used, you can hardly see the ink.

Having been an enthusiastic writer since childhood, I have always had a soft-spot for typewriters. However, it wasn't until recently that I have started purchasing them, collecting them, and hopefully learning how to repair them.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Remington Monarch 1 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Remington Serial Number page and the Remington Monarch 1 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
