The Typewriter Database 1949 Smith Corona Sterling Serial # 5A110910 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Michael Hoehne: 1949 Smith Corona Sterling Serial # 5A110910 I bought this from a local library where it had been donated for a fundraiser by Elizabeth Cooke, author of _Zeena_, an amplified retelling of the novel, _Ethen Frome_, from the perspective of his wife, Zenobia. I’m going to presume the book was written on this, however unlikely that may be (in the early- to mid-1990s?).

The Library had it “for the kids to bang on,” but the kids just tore out the ribbon. Still works, of course; it’s a Smith Corona. It needed a bit of repair but now works nicely.

While I find all of mankind's inventions interesting, I am most enchanted by the human-scale arts and devices, the ones that can be created (and repaired) in a home workshop or studio; the ones that can be understood by looking at them; the ones that do something useful or stir admiration. Typewriters work for me.
