The Typewriter Database 1889 Remington Standard 2 Serial # 56,517 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Mark Adams: 1889 Remington Standard 2 Serial # 56,517 An important machine in typewriter history: succeeds the original Remington No. 1, which was the Sholes & Glidden machine, and first to introduce upper and lower case shifting. Also, the No. 2 is truly the first commercially successful machine on a large scale.

My machine is missing one type bar, two keys, wooden roller and paper table. Nevertheless, it is a fascinating machine to have in ones collection. This is a relatively early No. 2. The shift keys read: "Upper Case" and "Lower Case." Later, Remington would change these to read, "Shift Key."
